Intel replaced copper with rays of light in the computer of the future

Light rays may replace electrons in future computers. Intel has made the first optical data link in the world based on integrated silicon laser . This link can transfer data at greater distances and much faster than currently achieved with copper technology and can reach up to 50 gigabits of data per second, equivalent to the transmission of an entire HD movie every second. Intel believes the breakthrough as "another step forward for the substitution of a fiber-optic connections extremely thin and light, which can carry more data at a much greater distance, which can radically change the computer design and architecture of future data centers, " according to company statement.
