Testimonial by Carlos Bhola, Managing Partner, Celsius Capital

“The most important difference with other foundations and forums is that the Bankinter Foundation of Innovation proactively focuses on innovation trends as they are emerging, and not reactively well after they have passed. This is likely because the topics are proposed by the Foundation members themselves (who are leading thinkers in various fields), voted upon by the Foundation members, and selected accordingly ... instead of being imposed by the Management of the Foundation and dictated to Members. Another difference is the distillation and application of learnings in a layered manner: global, regional (EU, Asia, US, etc.), and Spain. And finally, the Foundation is managed in a manner that serves its intended audience ... Management is cooperative, solicitive and competent.  For these reasons and many more, it is a pleasure to serve as a Member of the Bankinter Foundation of Innovation.

I do not know many foundations in the financial services sector; however I would highlight a few principles behind the Bankinter Foundation of Innovation. First, there is a sharp focus on the innovative forces that  are changing the face of society (especially Spain), government (especially Spanish/EU regulation) and business (both large and small enterprises, especially in Spain). These forces range from the impact of China's rise in the world's economy to technological advances, Nanotechnology, Web 2.0, to the very nature of Innovation. Second, there is a widespread dissemination of the Foundation's learnings, from presentations across Spain, to publications, to placement of students to fully benefit from these trends (e.g. Deusto students currently on an Akademia internship in China). And third, the participation of relevant experts -- members, presenters, etc. -- from around the world on the various topics being examined (all continents have been comfortably represented).

Being a part of such a distinguished group examining such interesting topics is a pleasure. Despite the differing opinions and perspectives on the various topics, there is mutual respect amongst participants, and the constructive debates lead to even better insights for the Foundation. Second, the FTF is not a simple conference where one sits and listens. On the contrary, it is WORK ... everyone participates in rigorous exercises that are focused on specific outputs which in turn are condensed into critical publications and presentations. Third, being a part of the dissemination of the learnings is really rewarding. There is no substitute to being able to present the Foundation's findings in Seville, Barcelona, San Sebastian, etc. and being able to answer questions first hand.”
