Tom Gilovich

Thomas Dashiff Gilovich is a professor of psychology at Cornell University who has done research in social psychology, decision-making, and behavioral economics, and has written popular books on these topics. He has collaborated with Daniel Kahneman, Richard Nisbett, Lee Ross, and Amos Tversky.

Gilovich earned his B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his Ph.D. in psychology from Stanford University in 1981. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry

His research deals with how people evaluate evidence from their everyday experience to make judgments, form beliefs, and decide on courses of action, and how they sometimes undervalue the evidence and make erroneous judgments, form dubious beliefs, and embark on self-defeating courses of action.
