Larry Rudolph

Larry Rudolph is the founder and chief technology officer of ReDigi, a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT/CSAIL), and a professor in MIT’s department of electrical and computer engineering. He received his Ph.D. in computer science in 1981 from NYU’s Courant Institute. He was on faculty at the University of Toronto, Carnegie-Mellon University, and Hebrew University, before joining MIT as a senior research scientist in 1995. Back in 1978, he helped initiate the Ultracomputer, a high-performance parallel computer architecture, many ideas of which can be found in today’s multi-core computer chips.

Through the lens of parallel processing, Rodolfo’s research took a fresh look at most aspects of computer systems, from algorithms and programming languages to computer architecture and switching networks, as well as open-space optical interconnect networks. His focus of research shifted from high to low performance computing, i.e., mobile systems and applications. He took a break from MIT to start VMware’s mobile virtualization project and later to found ReDigi. Prof. Rudolph continues to teach at MIT and it includes one of the most popular MOOCs (Massive On-Line Open Courseware) courses taught at MIT and EDX.

In October 2011 ReDigi, the company he co-founded, became the world’s first online marketplace for second-hand songs and digital goods. Has received recognition around the world for changing the way you look at your digital products
