The experts of the Future Trends Forum give us the keys to achieving the economic, social and environmental sustainability of the Food System.
The first week of June, the meeting of our think tank, the Future Trends Forum, was held virtually for the first time, where experts have identified, prioritized and proposed actions to ensure that the future of food creates a global, healthy and sustainable food system.
Thirty multidisciplinary experts working on how to make the food system are:
- Healthier, providing the entire world population with sufficient and healthy food,
- More sustainable, adapting to the challenge of economic sustainability,
- Greener, taking on environmental challenges.
After studying and analysing the current situation, and foreseeing what the future could be like in the short and medium term, pointing out the challenges and opportunities, the experts discussed the initiatives that could be launched in the next five years to define the future of food. The experts’ proposals can be grouped into four main areas:
- Adequate nutrition worldwide, with international coordination and cooperation being essential.
- Impact of the food system on health. On this point, the experts stress the need to promote incentives and economic policies that improve food quality, developing international, national and local food action plans.
- Food sustainability, promoting and incentivizing agroforestry and innovative business models to launch more sustainable alternative crops.
- FoodTech Solutions. Among the FoodTech solutions that experts point to are plant-based proteins and cultured proteins, the use of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data for predictive and preventive analysis or the use of Blockchain for tracking from origin to table.
