With the help of Opinno, several leaders have shared in a webinar the keys to what the intra-pandemic and post-pandemic leader should be like
What should the leader of tomorrow be like in a post-Covid-19 world? In a webinar organized by Opinno, six leaders have contributed their vision of the crisis and the attitudes and skills that are required for the leader of today and tomorrow.
With the report “RESTART: 10 post-COVID-19 trends” as a line of argument, the panelists shared what they believe will be the strategic lines in the new management, once the crisis caused by the coronavirus is over. This is the opinion of Irene Tinagli, member of the Board of Directors of Opinno and former member of the European Economic and Social Committee; We are moving towards more flexible processes, reviewable in the short term, to empower people, and to value creativity much more.
These are some of the most outstanding ideas about what the leader of the future should be like:
- It is necessary to rethink our beliefs, values and behaviors personally and professionally. As Jaime de Jaraíz, President and CEO of LG Electronics Iberia, said: It is time for true values to emerge. It is time to realize that “the important things are the important things”. We must have the purpose of leaving something valuable to those who come behind. For its part, for Michelle Caputi, CEO of the Bantrab Financial Group, in a post-covid plan, the most valued thing will be to have congruence between what we think, what we say and what we do.
- Collaboration and solidarity at all levels, with a special focus on public-private collaboration, are going to become the norm. Jesús Ponce, CEO of Novartis Farmacéutica and President of the Novartis Spain Group adds that a new paradigm is coming, not a new normality where it is necessary to rethink purposes and values, taking advantage of the moment of coopetition and betting on teleworking.
- The most important thing now is to ask yourself the right questions, not wanting to have all the answers.
- Soft skills will become increasingly important for leaders: humility, empathy, listening skills. In the opinion of Antonio Nuñez, Senior Partner at Parangon Partners, this crisis will make us have better leaders. Surround yourself with the best team possible. Very complicated months and years are coming with many challenges: people are the key, are you surrounded by those you need? Is your team right now?
- The leader who succeeds will be the one who sees his business as an ethical journey that generates an impact on society. For Javier Solans, Managing Director of Procter & Gamble Spain and Portugal, it is necessary to manage the business with two hands: with one, taking into account the sense of urgency, flexibility, economy. With the other, having a purpose based on new values.
From the Bankinter Innovation Foundation we congratulate Opinno for this initiative and thank the panelists for sharing their vision of how leaders should face the coronavirus crisis.
