Synergies between startups and large companies to innovate in the insurance sector

The Director of Innovation at Santalucía Seguros tells us how they collaborate with startups to innovate and carry out new projects.

We interviewed Ángel Uzquiza, Director of Innovation at Santalucía Seguros, about the synergies to innovate in the insurance sector (insurtech), in one of the Akademia sessions at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas.

In addition to working at Santalucía, Ángel is an expert in our Akademia innovation program, where he teaches the session What is innovation. As he explains in the interview, innovation is doing things differently, but profitably in the case of business.

As an expert in the field, Ángel tells how Insurtech brings agility and innovation to the insurance sector. For this reason, his company is committed to taking advantage of the synergies offered by insurtech startups.

In fact, a few years ago, Santalucía created a startup accelerator, Impulsa, an initiative that other insurers have been joining in recent years.

In addition, they proposed a strategy to approach the entrepreneurial ecosystem and the insurtech map from the point of view of innovation that was embodied in the Corporate Venturing model. This model creates synergies by acquiring qualities from startups and combining them with those of the corporation to take on new projects. Santalucía has several lines such as Venture Capital, Venture Builder and investment in startups that will allow the company to discover new formulas, products or processes to offer new services to its customers.
