Guillem Lopez i Casanovas
A graduate in Law, Bachelor of Economics, D. Phil in Public Economics from the University of York, he is currently Professor of Public Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Univ.Pompeu Fabra in Catalonia (Spain). He has been lecturing at the University of Barcelona and a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Business, Univ. of Stanford. He has created and directed the Centre for Health and Economics at UPF (1996-1906) and has been Vice-Chancellor of the University (1994-1997) and Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences at Pompeu Fabra (2000-2003) and appointed (March 2005) Member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Spain.
He has been a member of several public commissions in Spain on Health Policy, Pharmaceuticals, Health System Reform, Hospital Financing, Ageing and Social Security, long-term care, etc. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Ministry of Health and of the Spanish Catalan Department of Health. Member of the International Health Economics, President of the Conference in 2005 in Barcelona, he is co-director of the AHLF (the International Health Policy Program of the articulation of the CRES-UPF with Berkeley School of Public Health).
He is a distinguished member of the Royal College of Economists of Catalonia, a member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia and an associate of the Spanish Academy.
He was nominated in 2007 as President-Elect 2008/09, and then went on to become President for the 20010/11 term, and past President of the International Health Economics Association in 2010/11.
His main areas of teaching and research in which he has published are: Microeconomics (Welfare), Social Policy, Public Finance, Public Administration and Health Economics (at postgraduate level).
