Mara Dierssen

Researcher at the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG)

The goal of Mara Dierssen’s research is to understand the mechanisms underlying cognition and behavior and their disturbance in mental disorders.

She is a world expert in the field of Down syndrome and her contributions have been published in more than 165 peer-reviewed articles, including high-impact journals with an h-index of 47.

Dierssen was an associate professor at the University of Cantabria and the Ramon Llull University of Barcelona. She is former president of the Spanish Society of Neuroscience, and of the International Society of Behavioral and Neural Genetics, and president of the Trisomy 21 Research Society. She is a member of the European Academy and the European DANA Allianze for the Brain, Distinguished Alumni of the University of Cantabria, and the Silver Medal from the Faculty of Medicine.
