María José Alonso

Professor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Santiago de Compostela

María José Alonso is Professor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology, and former Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), Spain. In the past, she worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Paris-Sud, France (1986-1987) and, as a visiting professor at the University of Angers, France, and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1991 -1992).

María José was a pioneer in the field of drug administration and nanotechnologies in Spain (1987). She has been a member of several scientific and advisory boards of the most relevant international associations in the field of drug administration (CRS, FIP, APGI EUFEPS) and founder of the Spanish-Portuguese Chapter of the Controlled Release Society (1995). member of several editorial boards of prestigious journals in the field of drug administration.

María José has managed a research group of more than 20 researchers for more than 10 years. She has been responsible for more than 30 research projects and contracts (7 of them international) in the field of nanoparticles and the administration of drugs and vaccines. She is currently involved in the Grand Challenges in Global Health program funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She is the author of more than 140 scientific articles published in internationally recognized journals and several book chapters (20), 8 patents and more than 150 presentations in international symposia, for some of which (25) she was a guest speaker.
