Mara Dierssen

The aim of Mara Dierssen’s research is to understand the mechanisms underlying cognition and behaviour and their disturbance in mental disorders.

She is a world expert in the field of Down syndrome and her contributions have been published in more than 165 peer-reviewed articles, including high-impact journals with an h-index of 47.

Dierssen was an associate professor at the University of Cantabria and the Ramon Llull University of Barcelona. She is a former president of the Spanish Society of Neuroscience, and of the International Society of Behavioral and Neural Genetics, and president of the Trisomy 21 Research Society. He is a member of the European Academy and the European DANA Allianze for the Brain, Distinguished Alumni of the University of Cantabria, and of the Silver Medal of the Faculty of Medicine.
