Hugo Barra is Vice-President of virtual reality on Facebook where will lead Oculus team.

Until 2017, Hugo Barra was the vice president of Xiaomi global a company focused on being the most user-centric Mobile Internetcompany to constantly exceed user expectation through innovations of software, hardware and Internet services. Founded by Lei Jun and seven entrepreneurs, Xiaomi started in 2010 and launched MIUI, a deeply optimized Android-based operation system. We now offer a variety of products and services mainly through our e-commerce web sites, including MI4, MI3, RedMI, RedMI Note, MI2, MI Box, MI TV, MI Charger, Mi Band and other accessories. With many innovations, Xiaomi strives to re-invent the Mobile Internet business.

Previously, he was Group Product Manager and Global Product Lead for Mobile at Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) since joining the company in March 2008.  He is based in London, where many of Google’s mobile products are developed today.


Prior to Google, Hugo was Business Director of Nuance Communications (NASDAQ: NUAN), where he co-founded the company’s global business unit focused on mobile voice search and mobile voice messaging software products − Nuance Mobile.  During his nearly 5 years at Nuance, he held several roles including product management, product marketing, and business development, and launched a number of speech recognition products that positioned Nuance to become one of the world’s largest mobile software providers.


Previous to that, Hugo co-founded LOBBY7, a Boston-based mobile software company spun off of the MIT Media Lab and backed by SOFTBANK, acquired by Nuance Communications in 2003.


Earlier in his career, Hugo worked as a summer intern at McKinsey & Company, Merrill Lynch, Netscape Communications, and Walt Disney Imagineering.


A native of Brazil, Hugo received Bachelor of Science and Masters of Engineering degrees in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from MIT in 2000 and 2002, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Science from MIT’s Sloan School of Management in 2000.  He worked as a research assistant at the MIT Media Lab and MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab from 1996 to 2000, and was MIT Senior Class President from 1999 to 2000.
