The professional career of Cheng was in  international banking with Citigroup. Since joining the institution in 1981, her primary focus and responsibility was China.

In 1984, Cheng was first assigned to Beijing as the chief representative for the bank. She reopened their onshore presence in Beijing and was responsible for their activity  in northern China. Business focus was centered around key industries and government agencies. She also served as Director, Foreign Banking Association,  Beijing 1985-1987.

In 1988, Cheng was post to Citibank HK as the GM, Financial Institution Group, China and HK. During the period, Mr.. Cheng worked extensively with all the key chinese banks, insurance companies and investment houses. She also assisted the Shanghai, Shenzheng Stock Exchange on starting their B share market for foreign investors. Citibank remains today as their clearing house in foreign currency. She served as Director, Banking Institute, Hong Kong Chapter, 1988-1991.

In 1992, Cheng was named Country Corporate Officer, China. By year end, Citibank moved their  China country organization to Shanghai. With branches in Shanhai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzheng, the bank began offering local currency service to corporate names. Euromoney named Citibank as the best banking service provider in China 1995, 1996.  Mr. Cheng  was the Vice Chairman for the Banking Association in Shanghai, 1993-1996.

In 1996, Cheng was assigned to New York as Business Development Manger, Greater China. Throughout his service with Citibank, Cheng worked with many of the fortune 500 companies and regional names on their China interests. He also conducted periodic seminars for our clientbase on subject. In 1997, Cheng regretted from the bank and moved back to Shanghai to pursue his personal interests.

Based in Shanghai, Cheng is an independent advisor for business in the region. She also selectively participates in ventures that warrant direct involvement. In 2000, CP Technology Group was formed to supply industrial gases in the greater Shanghai region. She participates and serves on the board.  In 2002, he started Ultra Vision Technology, a company specialized in distribution of security product in the country.
