Senior Scientist in Astute Medical
Srivatsa Venkatasubbarao (Srivatsa V. Rao), Ph.D., Senior Scientist and Group Leader at Intelligent Optical Systems (IOS) received his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Kentucky, Lexington, in 1996. His graduate research focused on the development of multi‑enzyme biosensors by organized protein assemblies. More specifically, he worked on the preparation of homogenous protein conjugates and the layer‑by‑layer covalent immobilization of proteins. He also studied the application of organized protein assemblies in the development of sensors for cholesterol and glucose. At IOS, he has worked on a number of biosensor and bioanalytical instrumentation projects and is the principal investigator on twelve Small Business Innovation Research projects. He has developed bioanalytical instruments for biomolecular interaction monitoring on microarrays. This work has been used for proteomics, genomics, high throughput screening, and biological agent detection. He has developed various optical devices for in vivo diagnostic applications including optical fiber fluorescence sensors for periodontal disease detection and to monitor the endpoint of root canal preparation. He has developed a lateral flow immunoassay strips that use nanoparticles as labels for quantitative multiple agent detection for clinical and security applications. Dr. has several publications in the field of biosensors, biotechnology, and analytical instrumentation and two patents. He has been involved in proposal review panels and he was an invited speaker at German American Frontier Conference of Engineering (GAFCOE) organized by Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
