Tim specialises in chemistry, especially organic, pharmaceutical and polymer chemistry and petrochemicals. He is Managing Partner of the Cambridge Office and acts for a wide variety of clients such as a number of companies in the Cambridge area including one of the pioneers in the field of organic light emitting devices, a major pharmaceutical company active in the field of formulations for pain relief, a major petrochemical company and a number of academic institutions including Cambridge University. His practice involves the drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications worldwide, the handling of opposition and appeal work at the European Patent Office, the filing and prosecution of applications for Supplementary Protection Certificates and the preparation of infringement and validity opinions, due diligence reports and IP audits.
Tim joined the London office of Marks & Clerk in 1990, qualified as a European Patent Attorney and Chartered Patent Attorney in 1994 and became a Partner in 1997. Tim has an MA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, specialising in chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology. He stayed on there to do a PhD in Dr. Jim Staunton's group, studying the biosynthesis of macrolide antibiotics in a joint project with Dr. Peter Leadlay's group at the University's Biochemistry department.
