{"id":29647,"date":"2021-05-08T17:09:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-08T15:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/noticias\/the-future-of-food-sustainable-food-systems\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T11:37:39","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T10:37:39","slug":"the-future-of-food-sustainable-food-systems","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/en\/news\/the-future-of-food-sustainable-food-systems\/","title":{"rendered":"The Future of Food: Sustainable Food Systems"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/en\/experts\/roberto-ridolfi\/roberto-ridolfi-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Roberto Ridolfi<\/a>, <\/strong>FAO Assistant Director-General<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/home\/es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">, tells us that the future of food has to be associated with sustainable food systems and, specifically, with the <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/es\/objetivos-de-desarrollo-sostenible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sustainable Development Goals<\/a> (SDGs), especially with SDG No. 2, which seeks to eradicate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/es\/hunger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hunger<\/a>, and with SDG No. 12, which seeks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/es\/sustainable-consumption-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.<\/a><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-gestor-del-servicio wp-block-embed-gestor-del-servicio wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The SGDs and Food System | Roberto Ridolfi\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bF1F1JxoNZw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The transformation of the world&#8217;s food systems<\/strong> must pivot on the following axes:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Economic impact -Prosperity.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Social impact &#8211; People.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Environmental impact &#8211; Planet.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to move towards food sustainability?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Taking as an example the <strong>healthiest and most sustainable traditional and cultural customs<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Educating and empowering consumers.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Harnessing the power of digital technologies to accelerate and scale innovative ideas<\/strong> with high potential impact on food and agriculture, transforming digital solutions and services into global public goods.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Moving towards greater social sustainability implies attacking and correcting the most critical deficiencies in food systems,<\/strong> which have surfaced with the pandemic, threatening the lives and livelihoods of people around the world, especially the most vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To move towards greater environmental sustainability,<strong> we must rethink food systems to protect biodiversity<\/strong> and do what we can to slow climate change.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The cost of biodiversity<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FAO<\/strong>, in its 2019 report, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/3\/CA3129EN\/CA3129EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The State of the World&#8217;s Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture<\/a>&#8220;, provides an assessment of biodiversity for food and agriculture worldwide. This assessment describes <strong>the many contributions that biodiversity makes to food security and nutrition,<\/strong> and to the resilience of production systems, and points to the main drivers towards a change in trend: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Public policies for the protection of biodiversity.<\/li><li>Advances in Science and Technology.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The new food system must be sustainable, both economically and socially.
