{"id":29787,"date":"2021-03-12T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-12T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/noticias\/the-trends-for-2021-in-online-training\/"},"modified":"2025-12-18T13:07:48","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T12:07:48","slug":"the-trends-for-2021-in-online-training","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/en\/news\/the-trends-for-2021-in-online-training\/","title":{"rendered":"The trends for 2021 in online training"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Experts say that the pandemic has led to an acceleration of trends and that many will be consolidated, such as online training.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only <strong>17%<\/strong> of university students want to return to a <strong>100% face-to-face<\/strong> scheme as before the pandemic.<br\/><strong>41%<\/strong> would prefer a <strong>mixed face-to-face<\/strong> \/ online scheme<br\/><strong>30%<\/strong> would prefer to complete all their training <strong>100% online.<\/strong> It is striking that this percentage rises to almost 40% among first-year students.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is according to a <a title=\"survey\" href=\"https:\/\/impact.simpsonscarborough.com\/covid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">survey<\/a> conducted in the US by the higher education research and marketing agency <strong>SimpsonScarborough.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most powerful trends in online training is Massive Online Open Courses (<strong> MOOCs<\/strong>), which have seen demand skyrocket: of all the students who have ever registered on a MOOC platform, a third did so in 2020. To illustrate it with more figures: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Coursera<\/strong> raised $130 million in 2020 and has a valuation of $2.5 billion, more than double the value in 2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The MOOC movement has surpassed 180 million students, excluding China. <a title=\"CC\" href=\"https:\/\/www.classcentral.com\/report\/the-second-year-of-the-mooc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Data from Class Central <\/a>shows that providers launched more than 2,800 new courses, 360 new microloans, and 19 new online degrees in 2020 alone. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fundbk.lradmin.bankinter.bk\/documents\/165827\/0\/MOOC\/3eecec86-c752-40b9-b66d-7ee0d4a10c90?t=1615473873694\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org.\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/img_60e083c335413.png\" alt=\"Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Virtual reality <\/strong>and <strong>augmented reality<\/strong> will enhance the ability to offer hands-on programs online. For example, at the Massachusetts <strong>Institute of Technology&#8217;s (MIT)<\/strong> <strong>Sloan School of Management<\/strong>, students use <a title=\"toilet\" href=\"https:\/\/www.climateinteractive.org\/tools\/world-climate-simulation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Climate<\/a>, a simulated role-playing game, where they are assigned roles as <strong>UN<\/strong> delegates and asked to negotiate a climate agreement. A simulation model shows students, in real time, the impact of their decisions. <a title=\"Creators\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WorldClimate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to its creators<\/a>, more than 60,000 people have already participated in this simulator.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">60% of higher education institutions in the U.S. will use <strong>virtual reality <\/strong>by 2021 to create simulations and place students in <strong>immersive environments<\/strong>, as predicted by Gartner a few years ago. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, it should be noted that online training will increasingly be based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/en\/news\/ciencia-de-datos\/\">Data Science<\/a>: With all the data collected in online training, teachers can track the degree of student engagement with course materials, which helps them identify why some students are struggling or how to improve learning outcomes.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/programas\/akademia\/\">Akademia<\/a> programme of the Bankinter Innovation Foundation has been running online for more than a year now and this has allowed us to create groups of inter-university students, as well as multidisciplinary ones, providing an enormous wealth of points of view and solutions to exercises.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The pandemic has forced online training for almost a year, multiplying the number of solutions and the number of institutions that offer it, will it be a firm trend or ephemeral?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":5781,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_oaas_summary":"The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly accelerated the adoption of online education trends, many of which are expected to become permanent. Programs like the Bankinter Innovation Foundation\u2019s Akademia exemplify how online platforms can foster diverse, interdisciplinary collaboration among students across
