Experts from the Future Trends Forum, the think tank of the Bankinter Innovation Foundation, recommend 10 actions to improve global IT security:<\/p>\n

  1. Reduce the overall costs of cybercrime. <\/strong>That there is the possibility of initiating legal proceedings against cybercriminals for the recovery of the losses caused.<\/li>\n
  2. Promote security and privacy in software by design. <\/strong>The FTF experts propose that companies be suggested to comply with clear security standards that are tested before going to market.<\/li>\n
  3. Generalize two-factor authentication.<\/strong> Two-factor authentication is a technology that double-verifies digital identity to increase computer security. Its implementation is recommended for the financial industry and digital payments. <\/li>\n
  4. Educate citizens on basic cybersecurity.<\/strong> Global awareness campaigns could be organised to keep citizens informed and help put pressure on the relevant entities for implementation.<\/li>\n
  5. Raise awareness among the digital consumer about security.<\/strong> There should be a ‘cyber’ entity to educate citizens to take precautions against certain risky practices.<\/li>\n
  6. Protect national data. <\/strong>Collaboration between countries and companies to preserve the data they own.<\/li>\n
  7. Hold those responsible for insecure software criminally accountable. <\/strong>Computer security experts propose creating legal standards in terms of software security, promoted by an authority for cybersecurity, and that non-compliance be legally prosecuted.<\/li>\n
  8. Moving towards quality software.<\/strong> It calls for standardization of specific software quality requirements and specifications.<\/li>\n
  9. Promote a global cybersecurity strategy<\/strong>. A clear mandate is required for governments’ commitment to cybersecurity, with the aim of tackling the lack of trust in cyberspace. <\/li>\n
  10. Public-private collaboration.<\/strong> Cooperation would be key to improving the exchange of sensitive information. This cooperation would be led by the private sector as a victim of millions of dollars in losses due to cybercrime, accompanied by large software vendors, and with the collaboration of the public sector. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
