This means that <strong>71% of the financing rounds in Spain had the participation of at least one venture capital fund<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Multiverse, Travelperk and Splice Bio<\/strong> star in the biggest rounds since January. In the third quarter, only Lingokids has closed a round of more than 100 million euros. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Barcelona has consolidated its<\/strong> position as the Spanish city with the highest number of operations and investment volume attracted in the first nine months of the year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The number of <em>exits<\/em> increased compared to the previous year (+15%),<\/strong> with Hotelbeds going public.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/category\/startups-2\/\">Startup Observatory<\/a><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The year 2025 is being positive for investment in Spanish startups.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the first three quarters, the <strong>total volume of investment has increased by 15%<\/strong> compared to the same period in 2024, <strong>reaching 2,606 million euros<\/strong>. This capital has financed <strong>288 operations<\/strong>, which represents an increase of 9% in the number of rounds. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When analysing the third quarter, there is an increase in the number of operations compared to the same period of the previous year (99 rounds), although the amount raised has fallen by 36%.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"90\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26912\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1.png 850w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1-300x32.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1-768x81.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"308\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26915\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2.png 850w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2-300x109.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2-768x278.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, <strong>the volume of investment in startups during the third quarter of 2025 was 36% lower than<\/strong> in the same period of the previous year.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This decrease is explained by the reduction in the number of megarounds (those with amounts greater than \u20ac50 million) that have been halved, with only two operations closed in this quarter.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"807\" height=\"421\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26918\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/3.png 807w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/3-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/3-768x401.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 807px) 100vw, 807px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the total capital invested increased more than the number of rounds, the amount per trade also increased:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Arithmetic mean:<\/strong> \u20ac10.6 M, +7%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Median:<\/strong> \u20ac2.3 M, +53%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Phased investment<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"84\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen4-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26921\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen4-1.png 850w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen4-1-300x30.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen4-1-768x76.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the first 9 months of the year, Series C rounds (amounts from \u20ac20 million to \u20ac50 million) <strong>have been particularly noteworthy<\/strong> , growing by 77% compared to the previous period, demonstrating investors&#8217; interest in startups in more mature stages.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of transactions in series B and A has also increased. <strong>Series A have been the most frequent operations, reaching 86 operations<\/strong> so far this year. This casuistry is due to the fact that Series A startups can demonstrate traction and are in a moment of exponential growth in defined distribution channels. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, <strong>investment in startups in preseed\/seed stages has fallen by 19%,<\/strong> reflecting a trend seen since 2020. These funds have participated in 204 operations during the first 9 months of 2025, which represents 71% of the total rounds. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Public funds (83 operations), corporate venture capital (71 operations) and Business Angels (51 operations)<\/strong> have also contributed significantly to the financing of the ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Public institutions support startups financially in two ways.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Direct public investment, with benchmarks such as the European Innovation Council Accelerator (equity) or Enisa (soft loans).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monetary contribution to private venture capital funds, such as the Fond-ICO Global, which in 2025 selected 11 funds in which it will invest up to \u20ac850 million of Next Generation EU funds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"346\" height=\"550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen7-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26930\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen7-1.png 346w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen7-1-189x300.png 189w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 346px) 100vw, 346px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"280\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen8-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26933\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen8-1.png 850w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen8-1-300x99.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen8-1-768x253.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the most active <strong>local investors<\/strong> in the first three quarters of 2025, the following stand out:<\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"1\">\n<li><strong>JME Ventures<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bonsai Partners<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tie between EONIQ Fund and Draper B1<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the international arena, Andreeseen Horowitz (a16z), GP Bullhound and FJ Labs stand out with 4 operations each in Spanish startups.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen9-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26936\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen9-1.png 850w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen9-1-300x271.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen9-1-768x694.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the first nine months of 2025, <strong>mixed investment<\/strong>, in which both domestic and foreign investors participate in the same round, has stood out with a <strong>growth of almost X3<\/strong>. This type of operation has concentrated 48% of the total volume invested, through 91 rounds. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also very relevant that the number of rounds in which <strong>exclusively local investors participate represents the majority of operations, with 54% of the total<\/strong>. However, they represent 16% of the total amount. Examples include the rounds of Multiverse Computing, Happy Robot, and Ultralytics. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding the <strong>number of operations, Software<\/strong> also leads with 42 operations, followed by the <strong>Biotech &amp; Lifescience <\/strong>sector (33 operations) and <strong>Health &amp; Wellbeing<\/strong> startups (29 operations).<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"424\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen12-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26945\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen12-1.png 850w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen12-1-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen12-1-768x383.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"793\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen13-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26948\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen13-1.png 793w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen13-1-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen13-1-768x414.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 793px) 100vw, 793px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Which companies have you invested in?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The startups that have raised the most capital since January have been:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Multiverse Computing<\/strong>, the San Sebastian-based startup that has managed to raise <strong>\u20ac189 million<\/strong> in a round led by Bullhound in June, to which must <strong>be added the \u20ac67 million round<\/strong> it had raised in March.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Travelperk<\/strong>, a startup dedicated to the travel &amp; tourism sector and which has managed <strong>to double its valuation<\/strong>, considering the last round of 190 million.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Splice Bio<\/strong>, which has raised <strong>\u20ac118 million<\/strong> from its current investors, as well as EQT Life Science, Sanofi Ventures and Roche Ventures Fund, for the development of an ophthalmological treatment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the third quarter there has only been a round of <strong>more than 100 million euros, which corresponds to Lingokids<\/strong>, the Madrid-based startup focused on the education sector and which wants to expand internationally.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"442\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen14-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26951\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen14-1.png 850w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen14-1-300x156.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen14-1-768x399.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How investment is distributed throughout Spain<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Analysing the ranking of the Spanish cities that have raised the most capital in the first three quarters of 2025, the following stand out:<\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\">\n<li><strong>Barcelona, with \u20ac1,109 million raised in 108 operations<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Madrid, with \u20ac717 million raised in 80 operations<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>San Sebasti\u00e1n, with \u20ac269 million raised in 6 operations<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Large cities attract most of the investment in startups thanks to the availability of talent, access to technology (such as the Super Computing Center in Barcelona) and greater proximity to venture capital funds. However, it is possible to successfully undertake outside the main startup hubs, as is the case of the following startups that have raised more than \u20ac10 million each since January 2025: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mytriple A \u2013 Soria<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bit2me \u2013 Alicante<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Universal DX \u2013 Seville<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quantix Edge Security \u2013 Murcia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highlight Therapeutics \u2013 Paterna<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Basquevolt \u2013 \u00c1lava<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gaiarooms \u2013 Salamanca<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Halo tech &#8211; Albacete<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"850\" height=\"549\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen15-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26954\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen15-1.png 850w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen15-1-300x194.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Imagen15-1-768x496.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Divestitures (<em>EXITS)<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the Bankinter Innovation Foundation, we expect the number of <em>exits<\/em> in 2025 to exceed the figure for 2024. This is because <strong>in the first 9 months of the year alone, 49 <em>exits<\/em> have already been achieved, which represents an increase of 15%.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In quantitative terms, <strong>Hotelbeds stands out with the IPO<\/strong> that valued the company at \u20ac2,840M.
