In reality, this technology is already here and demonstrates its potential in fields such as programming, advanced mathematics and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/en\/news\/mobility-and-ai\/\">logistics planning<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rapid evolution of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/en\/news\/what-is-artificial-intelligence-interview-with-calum-chace\/\"> generative artificial intelligence<\/a> has driven unprecedented international competition, with companies and governments investing in the development of increasingly advanced models. From simple natural language processing tools,<strong> these technologies have evolved into sophisticated simulations of human reasoning<\/strong>, with capabilities that not only replicate thought patterns, but optimize and expand them. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, one of the most notable developments is the ability of these models <strong>to break down problems into a structured sequence of steps<\/strong>, a mechanism, known as a &#8216;<em>Chain of Thought<\/em>&#8216; (CoT), that is redefining the way artificial intelligence approaches complex tasks.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/trends\/cognitive-sciences\/abstract\/S1364-6613(24)00191-8\">Recent research<\/a> suggests that <strong>certain AI models can emulate human-like learning processes<\/strong>, particularly in the realm of &#8216;l<em>earning by thinking<\/em>&#8216;, which is based on four key processes: explanation, simulation, analogy and structured reasoning.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CoT allows AI to simulate human behavior when <strong>it breaks down a problem into stages<\/strong> before arriving at a solution. In this way, AI analyzes different factors progressively, refining their responses to offer more precise solutions. Of course, the quality of the response depends on the quality of the <em>prompt<\/em>, that is, the input and context provided, as well as the iterative interaction with the user to fine-tune the final result.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, if an AI is asked to organize a trip, rather than just listing flights and hotels, it could consider personal preferences, commute times, budgets, and even potential unforeseen events before offering a definitive answer. This <strong>ability to segment the problem<\/strong> improves its applicability in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/en\/news\/eight-areas-reshaped-by-artificial-intelligence\/\">several areas<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the medical sector,<strong> artificial intelligence can analyze symptoms and medical history <\/strong>to suggest more precise treatments. In the autonomous vehicle industry, it processes sensor information, recognizes objects, and makes decisions in real time to improve road safety. In recommendation systems, it optimizes personalization on platforms like Netflix and Amazon by evaluating user patterns at various stages. In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/en\/news\/fintech-and-artificial-intelligence\/\">financial sector<\/a>, it helps detect fraud, analyze risks and optimize investments, offering more efficient and secure solutions.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While an LLM-based chatbot like ChatGPT doesn&#8217;t natively employ chain of thought reasoning, <strong>it&#8217;s possible to improve the quality of its responses through <em>prompting<\/em> techniques<\/strong>, such as explicit prompting to apply step-by-step reasoning. That said, newer models are beginning to directly incorporate chain of thought reasoning, allowing the model to structure its responses in an automated manner without the need for additional instructions. This is the case with the most advanced versions of OpenAI, such as GPT-4o.c  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The development of AI models with structured reasoning capabilities is transforming the way we interact with technology. These tools not only process information, but also infer,<strong> analyze and optimize solutions with increasingly sophisticated logic<\/strong>. This confronts us with a crucial question: what will be the impact of this technology on our own critical thinking capacity in the long term?  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The evolution of AI poses a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionbankinter.org\/en\/news\/trust-tech-technologies-to-increase-trust-in-the-digital-age\/\">double challenge<\/a>: to take advantage of its advantages without losing our intellectual autonomy.
