Nanotechnology: Small Technologies and the Future of Health Applications
Kees Eijkel gives a speech about the commercialization of nanotechnology and how to speed up the commercialization curve and translate it into useful products. He talks about miniaturization and its relevance in the field of medicine. He talks about health drivers, direct and indirect, that need a solution. In reference to the contribution of nanotechnology to medicine, he speaks of the relevant technological advances in miniaturization, materials, diagnosis and analysis strategies. He describes the different areas where nanotechnology can, and is, being applied: pharma, diagnosis, surgical equipments, food, … He mentions the European Technology Platform Nanomedicine and then talks about the expectations and challenges in material and surfaces, instrumentation, diagnosis, interfacing between technology and life and the management of the innovation process.
