Future of Cloud Computing

El Cloud Computing es una tecnología que plantea grandes expectativas de crecimiento en el futuro próximo.

In 2010, we said: In short, as if it were a perfect storm, Cloud Computing seems to emerge and feed on the convergence of different determining elements of the moment we live. Some voices point out that this “perfect storm” will not only bring about disruptive change in the IT industry but also alter the way people work and companies In 2010, we said: In short, as if it were a perfect storm, Cloud Computing seems to emerge and feed on the convergence of different determining elements of the moment we live. Some voices point out that this “perfect storm” will not only bring about disruptive change in the IT industry but also alter the way people work and companies operate. Irving Wladawsky-Berger, president emeritus of the IBM Academy of Technology and an expert at the Future Trends Forum, believes that the emergence of Cloud Computing marks a vitally important milestone in the application of IT to the improvement of the service sector, the main basis of modern economies. To explain the relevance it may have in the world economy, it draws a parallel with the impact that the application of technologies had on the automation of manual labor during the Industrial Revolution. This expert believes that Cloud Computing will be key to the management of the huge amount of information and services that we handle today and will contribute to reducing the complexity of current computer models, a complexity that is often transferred to the end-user. As he states: “the industrialization of services will be one of the key ingredients in the phenomenon that historians will end up describing as the equivalent of the Industrial Revolution.”

According to LogicMonitor, 83% of enterprise computing processes will be in the cloud by 2020.
Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform are projected to gain market share against Amazon AWS over the next three years, although AWS will remain the clear market leader.

What will be the future of Cloud Computing?

The future holds:

– Market growth over the next few years of around 20% per year.

– Greater use of open source technologies: Serverless and containers.

– Trend towards the Multicloud model , where the user selects different Cloud Computing providers for different tasks.

Edge Computing model  offered by large suppliers to cover the needs of smart cities, autonomous cars and, in general, IoT (Internet of Things) solutions.

– With the advent of 5G:

– Growth of the subscription and streaming offer for entertainment and education (audiovisual content, games).

Augmented reality and virtual reality solutions in both business and personal areas.

– Increasing pressure for environmental sustainability solutions.

The next step Quantum?

Quantum computers could drive the development of new advances in science, new life-saving drugs, machine learning methods to diagnose diseases very early, materials to make more efficient and sustainable devices and structures, and so on. It opens a field that can suppose a quantum leap (never better said) in terms of the usefulness of information systems for the human being.

It is not entirely clear what the first practical applications of quantum computing will be or when they will appear. But there is a feeling that the first one who manages to make these machines useful will obtain great economic and cybersecurity advantages, so it has also become a geopolitical challenge.
