Andrew Hessel
A distinguished research scientist, Andrew Hessel is a catalyst for the future in biological technologies, helping industry, academics and regulators understand the changes occurring in the life sciences. Trained in microbiology and genetics, Andrew has continuously worked at the forefront of biotechnology. He was part of the faculty of Singularity University, where he co-chaired the area of biotechnology and bioinformatics until 2012 and now helps create biotechnology. He is also a member of the University of Ottawa’s Institute for Science, Society and Policy and co-founder of the world’s first biotechnology cooperative, Pink Army Cooperative biotechnology, which is working to create open source support for cancer therapies. Andrew is active in synthetic biology and genetic engineering events for groups including Intel Inc., the FBI, and the United Nations.
