Fusion energy is experiencing a decisive moment. The National Ignition Facility achieved a historic milestone in 2022: fusion ignition, demonstrating that fuel can generate more energy than it consumes. Tammy Ma, director of the Livermore Institute for Fusion Technology, participated directly in that experiment and today leads part of the roadmap that will mark the next decade. In this session we will address the real meaning of the ignition milestone, how inertial fusion energy works and what are the steps that can lead to the first commercial plant. We will also analyse its implications for the energy system: a clean, CO₂-free source and no long-lived waste. The acceleration of this technology depends on international collaboration. Tammy Ma will explain why and what needs to happen to scale it successfully. The webinar will be held in English without a single translation.
