Appointed in 2024, Shunsuke Ide is Deputy Director-General of QST’s Naka Institute for Fusion Science & Technology, overseeing plasma research and the Japan-EU Satellite Tokamak Project—the superconducting tokamak JT-60SA. A veteran JT-60 experimentalist, he pioneered non-inductive current-drive and profile-control scenarios on JT-60U, to define steady-state regimes towards
DEMO, and chaired the ITPA Integrated Operation Scenarios group (2008–11). Holding a 1989 PhD in Physics from Kyoto University, he also chairs the IEA Technology Collaboration Programme on Tokamak Programmes, coordinating global tokamak research.
