Eugene Kandel

Eugene Kandel is an Israeli economist, CEO of Start-Up Nation Central, and Professor of Economics and Finance at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

From 2009 to 2015, he was Chairman of Israel’s National Economic Council (appointed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) in the Prime Minister’s Office and Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister, where he played a central role in all major economic policy decisions.

Previously, he advised governments, corporations, financial institutions and NGOs, served on the Israel Anti-Monopoly Court and chaired investment committees of pension and provident funds in Israel. He is a Fellow of the Hebrew University’s Centre for the Study of Rationality, a Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy and Research in London, and a Fellow of the European Institute of Corporate Governance. He is the founder of the Center for Financial Markets and Institutions and the Master’s Degree in Finance and Financial Economics, both at the Hebrew University.
