As some studies highlight, in recent times there has been an increase in the labour supply in the field of big data.
A few years ago, the European Union estimated that the value of the data economy had reached no less than 285,000 million euros and that in 2020 it would exceed 739,000 million, 4% of the EU’s Gross Domestic Product. Far from what many have argued that this technology would destroy jobs, the truth is that in recent times there has been an increase in the labour supply in the field of big data, as highlighted by some studies such as the Data Economy, Wealth 4.0, prepared by the Telefónica Foundation and Ariel. where the growth of more than 10.5 million in the number of jobs related to big data was recorded.
The notable increase in the demand for jobs in this area has boosted the training offer linked to big data. Studies such as the one on “Most in-demand positions and skills” prepared by the EAE Business School provide quite prescient data. The big data expert is the second most in-demand professional, only behind computer engineers.
But it is not only this more general profile that is currently most in demand by companies, there are other professional profiles related to big data that are playing a key role in the digital transformation processes of companies in various sectors. Here are some of these positions:
- Chief Data Officer. The main responsibility of this profile is to justify through the analysis and interpretation of the data any decision made within the company.
- Data scientist. It is the most important link in the process. It is responsible for extracting all the value and knowledge from the data, handling statistics, mathematics and algorithms.
- Data steward. They are the protectors of information, those who are in charge of managing and supervising security policies. Another of its functions is to coordinate the data and carry out exhaustive monitoring of it.
- Business data analyst. In this case, the main function is to assess the needs of the organization to send them to the data scientist.
