Criteria, objectivity and vision to evaluate each candidacy

The jury of the Journalism Innovation Awards is made up of an independent committee that combines institutional vision, journalistic criteria and business leadership.

The jury analyses the candidatures from different perspectives, such as informative rigour, narrative quality, impact and their contribution to the innovative ecosystem. The aim is to ensure a transparent and demanding selection process, focused on recognising excellence.

  • Mª Dolores Dancausa

    President of Bankinter

    Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Bankinter and is an independent director of international companies such as Acciona and Puig Brands.

     

    She held the position of CEO of Bankinter between 2010 and 2024, a period in which the entity consolidated itself as one of the most solid and profitable banks in Europe. Previously, she developed an outstanding career in the insurance sector, where she was General Director and CEO of Línea Directa Aseguradora.

     

    She has a degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid and has higher education at IESE and Harvard Business School.

  • Juan Antonio Zufiria

    President of the Bankinter Innovation Foundation

    He is President of the Bankinter Innovation Foundation and a full member and Vice-President of the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain, as well as a recognised expert on the intersection between technology, business strategy and innovation management.

     

    He developed an extensive international career at IBM for more than 30 years, where he held senior management positions as President of IBM Spain, Portugal, Greece and Israel, and Senior Vice President of IBM Global Markets.

    He holds a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).

  • Teresa Risk

    Secretary of State for Innovation (Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities)

    Secretary General for Innovation of the Government of Spain (Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities).

     

    General Secretary of Innovation and one of the main people responsible for public policy of R+D+i in Spain. In this position, he coordinates strategies to promote innovation and chairs key bodies such as the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI) and the company Innvierte.

     

    Throughout her career, she has combined her institutional work with a solid academic career, being a professor of Electronic Technology at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In 2026 it was distinguished with the AMETIC Gold Medal for its leadership in strengthening the technological ecosystem and its commitment to the transfer of knowledge to the productive sector. She holds a PhD in industrial engineering.

  • Carlos Franganillo

    Director and presenter of Informativos Telecinco

    Director and presenter of Informativos Telecinco, and one of the most recognized voices of television journalism in Spain. She is currently in charge of Mediaset España’s prime-time newscast, where she leads the coverage of national and international news.

     

    Throughout his career, he has developed extensive experience in international information as a correspondent for RTVE in Moscow and Washington D.C., and for years he was the presenter of the second edition of the Telediario. His journalistic work has been recognized with awards such as the Ondas Award, the Iris Award and the City of Malaga Journalism Award for his rigor and narrative capacity.

     

    He has a degree in Audiovisual Communication from Nebrija University and in Journalism from San Pablo-CEU.

  • Cristina Garmendia

    President of the Cotec Foundation for Innovation

    President of the Cotec Foundation for Innovation and one of the key figures in the promotion of science, technology and innovation in Spain. He currently leads initiatives aimed at promoting innovation as a driver of economic and social development, and is a member of various boards of directors and advisory committees in the public and private spheres.

     

    Throughout her career, she has held top-level responsibilities in both the institutional and business spheres, highlighting her time as Minister of Science and Innovation of the Government of Spain (2008-2011) and the presidency of companies such as Mediaset Spain. With a marked entrepreneurial vocation, he founded the biotechnology company Genetrix, the Spanish-American company, Satlantis Microsats, which operates in the “New Space” sector developing innovative solutions for earth observation and the company Ysios Capital, which manages several funds specialized in Life Sciences & Healthcare.

     

    She has been recognized, among other distinctions, with the Grand Cross of the Royal and Distinguished Spanish Order of Charles III awarded by the Government of Spain, with the Grand Band Order of the Rising Sun Rays of Gold and Silver, a distinction granted by the Government of Japan and Grand Officer of Merit of the Italian Republic awarded by the Government of the Republic of Italy.

     

    PhD in Biological Sciences, specializing in Genetics, she completed her doctorate in Molecular Biology under the direction of Professor Margarita Salas, at the Severo Ochoa National Center for Molecular Biology. He completed his academic training with an MBA from the IESE Business School of the University of Navarra.

  • Lorenzo Milá

    RTVE journalist

    RTVE journalist and one of the most recognized figures in communication in Spain. She currently focuses her work on disseminating information about the climate crisis and sustainability, consolidating herself as a leading voice in scientific and environmental communication in general media.

    Throughout more than three decades of experience in public radio and television, he has been the face of innovative news programs such as La 2 Noticias and director and presenter of the second edition of the Telediario. He has also held responsibilities as chief correspondent in Washington and Rome, from where he has covered some of the major milestones in international politics.

  • Álvaro Pascual-Leone

    Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School

    Dr. Pascual-Leone is a world-renowned leader in the development of transcranial magnetic stimulation in the field of cognitive neuroscience and its therapeutic applications in neurology, psychiatry, and neurorehabilitation, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Bankinter Foundation for Innovation.

     

    His research projects focus on understanding the mechanisms that control brain plasticity throughout life, with the goal of modifying them to achieve optimal behavioral outcomes in each individual.

     

    With over 35 years of experience, he has developed extensive expertise in a variety of specialized fields.
